Herbs for Female Infertility

A new study from Australia shows that managing female fertility with Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) improves pregnancy rates almost 2-fold within a 3-6 month period compared with Western Medical (WM) fertility drug therapy. All fertility indicators were also positively influenced indicating positive physiological effect leading to viable pregnancy.

The study, which was a meta analysis, searched 40 RCTs involving 4247 women with infertility due to PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, anovulation, fallopian tube blockage, or unexplained infertility. Results showed a 1.74 higher probability of achieving a pregnancy with CHM therapy than with WM therapy alone (p<0.0001). Mean pregnancy rates were 60% in the CHM group compared with 33% in the WM group.

This study goes hand in hand with another meta analysis just recently published which showed the positive effect of Chinese Herbal Medicine as adjunct therapy to IVF, increasing the likelihood of clinical pregnancy two-fold (p<0.0001), as well as ongoing pregnancy (p<0.009).
